How to connect your own domain names to Show & Tour

Updated over a week ago

You can connect any domain name to Show & Tour as long as you can access the DNS records. You also need to be on the Plus, Pro, or Unlimited plan.

Please keep in mind that you cannot connect the root domain name of your main marketing website, but you can easily set up a subdomain. EX: Your main website is at mywebsite.com. You can set up tours.mywebsite.com or listings.mywebsite.com. The subdomain can be anything you want and you can set up multiple for different cases!

Once a domain name (or subdomain) is connected, you can set it as the default domain name for all projects, set it as your dashboard domain name, or set it as the domain name for a single project.

All you need to do is add a CNAME record that points to hosting.show.tours and we'll handle the rest. (If your registrar isn't allowing you to create a CNAME record, see alternative options below)

Steps To Add A CNAME Record

  1. Sign in to your Domain Registrar (where you purchased the domain).

  2. Navigate to the domain name you want and find it's DNS settings.

  3. Add a CNAME record for that domain and point it to our servers (hosting.show.tours). See examples below.

  4. After adding the CNAME record, navigate to that domain name in your browser to make sure it is pointing to our servers. It should pull up the Show & Tour logo and display a message saying "Oops! This domain is not registered for hosting yet!". See example below. HINT: if it does not seem to be working, try opening the domain name in an incognito/private tab or clearing your browser cache.

Here is an example CNAME record created in NameCheap...

If you want to create and connect a subdomain, just add the subdomain name in the Host field. For example, if your website is "mywebsite.com" you could set up "tours.mywebsite.com" by placing "tours" in the Host field. See the example below using Godaddy...

To check if the CNAME was added correctly, go to that domain name in your browser and you should see the following message...

If you are using Godaddy or another registrar that is not allowing you to set up a CNAME record on the root domain, see the alternative instructions below.

Steps To Add An A Record

  1. Sign in to your Domain Registrar.

  2. Navigate to the domain name you want and find it's DNS settings.

  3. Add an A record for that domain and point it to our servers (167.172.12.231). See example below for Godaddy.

  4. After adding the A record, navigate to that domain name in your browser to make sure it is pointing to our servers. It should pull up the Show & Tour logo and display a message saying "Oops! This domain is not registered for hosting yet!". See example above. HINT: if it does not seem to be working, try opening the domain name in an incognito/private tab or clearing your browser cache.
